I don’t know about you guys but I love having pleasant conversations with people. Damian and I like to discuss a lot of things. We don’t generally hold back and we like to have discussions about our personal points of view or about whatever topic we choose to discuss. I enjoy this aspect of our relationship. It keeps me on my toes. Plus, isn’t it nice to have someone who doesn’t always agree with you but will genuinely offer some feedback or argument that doesn’t immediately turn hostile. Anyway, this is how today’s topic came about. Damian and I were discussing compliments and how they’re kind of taboo nowadays. Specifically, compliments towards people of the opposite gender and how these are seen by them.
I personally love giving people compliments. There’s nothing other than good wishes behind my words. If I see someone looking amazingly well, I tend to tell them. I also like to compliment people who seem to be feeling upset. Unfortunately, some individuals don’t take kindly towards compliments. They misconstrued where these words are coming from and either are offended by being spoken to or assume their flirted with. I’m not trying to say that these people may not have valid reasons to feel this way. Everyone has their own battles they’re going through. BUT I also don’t believe in generalizing or assuming. NOT everyone is trying to get you. Not everyone has some sort of evil agenda.
Did you know?
A compliment or a well-wish could make someone’s day. I have met more people who take compliments well than people who think I’m trying to get something or have some sort of evil agenda. Words of encouragement, love, compassion, and understanding should not be taken as words with an ulterior motive. I’m not trying to say that some people do not use these methods to hurt others. What I am trying to say is that the world is also full of awfully good people and by thinking that everyone’s actions are inherently evil, you may be losing more than what you could gain. So, if someone compliments your outfit or asks you where you got your watch or even glasses, thank them! Maybe offer a compliment of your own. Be that magical person with the kind words and throw them all around.
