Did you know? Knowing Your Limits

Did You Know?
Me and my daddy looking awesome.
Me and my daddy looking awesome.

This blog post is going to be a new series in this blog. I’d like to post a daily snippet of knowledge I have learned that day. I’ve come to realize that the world is a grand and merciless teacher and I am an excited sponge ready to learn, love, and understand.

So, let’s get started.

Today’s snippet of information was given to me by my father. My dad is the best person I have ever met. I have not encountered a sweeter, thoughtful, and more hardworking soul in my life. I call him frequently because I’m a big whiny baby and I need my papa.

Did you know that sometimes you will be unable to do what you desperately want to do because you simply can’t?

There are limits to what you can and cannot do. I always tend to overexert myself. It’s okay to say “I can’t” and not feel an overwhelming sense of guilt. It’s okay to take a break. It’s okay to not carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. You, yes, I mean you, don’t have to do everything, right now, this second.

My dad isn’t the first person to tell me this. He’s actually been the most recent. My sisters Ruthy and Susan and my husband Damian like to remind me. However, it was last night the words coming out of my papa’s mouth that struck the hardest. My dad is not the type of person to stay put. Unfortunately, as a disabled veteran, he’s had to learn when to say “I can’t”. If my dad can, so can I.

  1. It takes wisdom to realize our limitations. I think it’s a sign of maturity and growth. Also, you have more time and energy for the things you can do and love!
